I am the third oldest child, and the mother of Gregory L. Jones who this book is about. I came to Chicago in 1959 along with my sister.
I spent years trying to adapt to city living, and I found out that life in the big city is more serious than I could ever imagined. As I got older, my desire was to have a family and I always wanted a son to be my first born, and when I graduated from high school in 1968, to my surprise, I realized that I would birth forth a son and his name would be Gregory.
Years had gone by and I found myself caught up in situations that changed the whole scope of things. I allowed turmoil and distress to get the best of me and started using drugs. As a result, I lost my focus and it defeated the real purpose of why I came to Chicago. My family and I realized that it was going to take a miracle to straighten my life out. At the time, I was a single parent, with two children, Gregory, and Tammy, but I continued to raise them in spite of the shape I was in. The average person who knew me, saw me as a good parent; but I was confused and stressed out. I had some issues, but further on up the road, God had mercy on me and in 1989, He performed a miracle and delivered me from drugs.
I had began to study the Bible and attend church services regularly. I began to realize how off track my life had been.
Today, I am the Sunday School Superintendent, the Overseer for Women’s Ministry, the Coordinator for the Outreach Ministry at my church and the Elect Lady for the Shiloh District in the Northern Illinois Juridiction. Through my life and testimony, many lives have been transformed by the grace and salvation of God.
I thank God, my heavenly Father, who gave me the strength to give birth to this assignment. My son knew I had started to write this book about four years ago. In fact, he was very happy about it. He was a very unique individual whom I feel deserves recognition. He is greatly missed...
